In the late 1800’s, Rick’s great-great-grandfather was a successful distiller, rectifier, and distributor of beer, wine and liquor in Oswego, New York. For nearly 40 years, John Kennedy Lynch and his sons steadfastly built their family business, gaining reputation for the brands JKL & Sons Bourbon and Lynch’s Golden Wedding Whiskey, among others. However, despite their success, the Federal government and Prohibition forced them to close their business in 1920, as it did thousands of others nationwide.
Now, Rick and Gia, along with her brother, Jude, seek to reclaim this lost family legacy with the launch of Everwild Spirts, a new modern craft bourbon distillery in Sandusky, Ohio.
They were inspired by this family history to develop and craft unique and distinctive bourbon whiskeys that represent the local land and grains of their native Ohio. New White American Oak barrels are grown, harvested and coopered by the Speyside Bourbon Cooperage in Jackson, Ohio. The grains (corn, rye, wheat, and barley) are grown, harvested and processed from local northern Ohio farms. Their water is sourced locally, and emanates from the same limestone aquifer that was used to make legendary Crystal Rock Beer in Sandusky for over 80 years.
Sandusky, Ohio is a special place for many reasons, but it is probably most well known today as a “vacationland”. Every year millions of visitors from all over the world visit Sandusky for their annual vacation. They come to enjoy beautiful Lake Erie, the islands including Put-In-Bay and Kelley’s Island, boating, beaches, world-class freshwater fishing, the sports park, multiple water parks, and the world famous Cedar Point amusement park.
The name Everwild embodies the essence of this summertime season along the ‘north coast’, where locals and visitors alike take time off for their annual family vacation. That excitement, anticipation, the exhilaration you feel, escaping everyday life to seek fun, adventure and new experiences… that’s Everwild.
